Do you think Nathalie would take better care of Adrien than Gabriel? (I give you this question alongside an original art made solely by me)
I see Gabriel's effort as a father despite dealing with the terrible and immense pain of mourning his wife, and mother of his beloved son. Yes, he could have been a better father, and what I like most about Miraculous is how maturely they portray this complicated father-son relationship. And in that long time, and the fact that Adrien was able to go to school in the first place, was thanks to Nathalie, and I love seeing how much she grows in Adrien like a second mother :)
I'm not taking away Gabriel's guilt, but at least I try to understand him.
