Realism is making me bang my head on a wall.
Don't get me wrong. I love writing realistic. I do a lot of research. Or so I thought.
I was doing my usual research and I stumbled upon something which is ruining my whole plot (or so I think).
WHY DOES UK STILL HAVE CLASSISM? I came across a comment saying it's still very prevalent and though they did mean historical romance, but a follow up comment confirmed that it's indeed still very much prevalent.
Now, I wanted to write a cosy emotion driven romance, but now I am so crushed, like genuinely worried that people would look at my characters and try to categorise them into classes, when their hobby and mannerism of speech was random and not thought. Like, I know my characters and how they would talk, but now if I consider classism, it changes their mannerism, speech, outlook on everything and EVERYTHING.
No wonder a lot of romances are based in US, it doesn't put you to these judgements. No wonder people prefer romantasy or historical. Like why such judgement in contemporary?
I wanna cry T-T
Edit: Maybe should've mentioned I am still a teenager, freshman. So, I have zero idea about the world except for the news. So, maybe it might've come off to strong when I first saw it.
Also, yes I do know classism pretty much exists everywhere, but I guess I was just caught off guard. My apologies.
