Addressing Subreddit Toxicity 2: Electric Boogaloo

Hello there, contestants of reddit,

About a month ago, u/tron3747 made a post outlining some potential changes to the subreddit. We've had plenty of time to read over all the feedback from the community and discuss it internally. This is going to be a concise post—I don’t know how he managed to write 10 paragraphs in one sitting, but I sure can't, so let's keep it short.

This will be taking effect next Thursday on the 20th of March.

Let's discuss the big thing first, toxicity and non-constructive criticism.

We'll be cracking down on rants and complaints. Every Thursday, we'll be doing a "rant day" megathread (or as I like to call it, Tantrum Thursday). Realistically this will span 1-3 days, not just the singular day, any non-constructive rants or complaints you have about the latest patch, or the current state of the game SHOULD BE IN THAT MEGATHREAD, I can't stress this enough, if you make a post ranting about why light should be removed because you got killed by a sword player, it's going to be removed, post it in the megathread instead.

Constructive criticism is allowed using the "GAS" (Grievance – Argument – Suggestion) method:

  1. Grievance – State the issue in a way that gets attention, ideally in the title.
    1. ✅ "Contestants running Evasive Dash and Sword are insanely frustrating to play against."
    2. ❌ "Embark, are you guys even PLAYTESTING? How did this get past QA??"
  2. Argument – Explain why it’s a problem with reasoning.
    1. ✅ "The instant gap-closing makes it impossible to react. You can’t outrun them, you can’t track them fast enough because of the Evasive Dash, and if you try to fight back, you’re already dead before your bullets land. It feels like I'm playing OSU!"
    2. ❌ "Bro, I literally can’t do anything against this. I see a sword player, and boom, I’m dead. Like, what am I supposed to do? Uninstall?"
  3. Suggestion – Offer a tweak or alternative.
    1. ✅ "There needs to be a higher cooldown on the Evasive Dash. Right now, it lets sword users engage, disengage, and reposition too easily, making them way too dominant at close range."
    2. ❌ "Evasive Dash needs to be REMOVED. Just give lights an ‘Auto-Win’ button at this point, it’s straight-up BS."

As long as you're following this kind of ✅ GOOD structure, you're free to make a regular post instead of using the megathread. If anyone needs clarification on anything at all, leave a comment and I will try to respond.

What about content creators?!

In the last announcement, Tron mentioned that we'd be setting up a system for content creators to post their content on the subreddit after getting approval and meeting certain guidelines. Truthfully, we haven't spoken about this a whole lot, and the community wasn’t super happy about the idea either. For now, we're putting this on pause until we discuss it more. Any feedback is appreciated—we want the subreddit to be a place for content creators of all kinds to share their work, but we also have to prevent spam and low-quality posts.

That about wraps it up! Once again—any questions leave them below and I'll get back to you. Tron has been a little busy recently, so you might be stuck with me for a little while, but I promise to be good!

Quick amendment! Remember the rules!

I forgot to add this in before, but I just want to remind everyone to FOLLOW THE RULES. You can view them in the sidebar, please take a good look! Here's a couple I've seen broken a lot! Do not break these!

  • Do not post screenshots of offensive names, instead report them to Embark in-game, via the support portal or the official Discord's 'EggMail' rather than sharing here for everybody to see. This violates Rule 9, under offensive content.
  • Do not re-upload content to r/thefinals that you do not own or have the permission to use, this mainly includes, but is not limited to, YouTube videos. Content that is closely tied to Embark is excluded from this rule, e.g promotional trailers, store updates, etc. This violates Rule 1 and Rule 4.
