Withdrew from my 401k last year but there is no 1099-R form available on my Vanguard account. The tax form page says there are no 1099-R forms for my plan. Is that not the form I need?
I bought my first house in March of ‘23 and was able to make a hardship withdrawal from my 401k to assist with the down payment, closing costs, and all the other fun expenses that come with buying a house. Taxes were paid on the withdrawal at the time I withdrew.
I was doing some research to make sure I have all of the forms I need when I sit down to do my taxes and read on Vanguard’s website that you will receive a 1099-R if you have an employer-sponsored plan (which I have) and took a distribution.
Vanguard says 1099–R forms will be available January 8th. I just checked my tax forms page and it says there are no 1099-R forms for my plan and that I would only see the form if I took a distribution the previous year.
Am I missing something here? Is a hardship withdrawal not a distribution? Is that only for people that are retired and receiving money from their retirement plan? I don’t have any tax forms available on my account at all. Do I need to report the hardship withdrawal?
