if a pregnancy goes wrong and I had to chose between the mother or the child to live, who should I choose?

first off all I wanna start by saying may God never put any of us in a situation like, and I am so sorry to anyone that went through anything like this.. it definitely isn't an easy choice..

anyway, back to the post

I know that after 120 days the mother isn't allowed to abort even if her life is in danger since the baby also has a life at this point, and who are we to choose whose soul matters more? only God chooses whose soul gets to live and it fully makes sense to me.

so we just leave it to the doctors, hope for the best and whoever survives survives.

but what if the doctors give us an option to save one of them? is there a rule in islam that says who to pick or is it just your decision at this point? what would happen and how should we go about this in an Islamic way?
