To all those saying "aiming an expensive camera at the landscape isn't good cinematography"
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Severance. The storytelling is extremely nuanced, and without a solid grasp of existential philosophy and corporate dystopian structures, most of the themes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Mark’s melancholic detachment, which is intricately woven into his characterization, his personal struggles echo the works of Kafka and Camus. The fans understand this and they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the narrative, to realize that it’s not just a psychological thriller, it’s a profound commentary on identity, autonomy, and the nature of work itself.
As a consequence, people who dislike Severance truly are intellectually stunted. Of course they wouldn’t grasp the genius behind the Eagan philosophy or the unsettling duality of the Lumon employees’ existences. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those media illiterate simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Erickson’s masterful world unfolds on their screens. What fools! How I pity them.
And yes, by the way, I do have a Lumon Industries mug. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the innies' eyes only and even they have to demonstrate that they understand Kierkegaard’s The Sickness Unto Death before I let them sip from it.
