Scripps PCP + Mental Health Meds?
Hi all - does anybody have a Scripps (female) PCP that they like, specifically if you are on any anti-depressants and/or ADHD meds?
I know that is weirdly specific - TLDR: I am relatively new to San Diego, and am in need of a new (female) Primary Care Doctor at Scrippts, that will also prescribe my regular mental health meds (I already have the prescriptions, just need someone who will manage/occasionally change if needed).
For more context, bc maybe it is a wild request, but I found a PCP when I first moved here and she is nice (Dr. Shuang Lin at Scripps) but says she doesn't really feel comfortable managing my mental health prescriptions. For reference, I am on Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Vyvanse, and have been for many years prescribed by previous PCPs. I guess I respect that, she feels that is not her specialty/area of expertise. So, I had to find a mental health provider to do telehealth visits with to manage those prescriptions/change them around a bit if needed, as I am still on a forever search to find the right combo. However, I didn't have a good experience with said mental health provider - idk how to explain without going into a long story but she just was kind of a "pill dispenser" and didn't seem to really care even want to be there. Besides that, she wanted to meet (over video) every 2 weeks. My health insurance is limited to Scripps, and it was costing me $50 every time to meet with the mental health provider. I know that isn't bad, but very quickly it added up and became a financial burden. I wasn't getting anything out of the experience anyways, it wasn't talk therapy or anything we'd basically just log on, she'd ask how the meds are and I would say good, and then we'd hang up.
When telling this story to many friends and family (who live elsewhere) the all said their PCP also just manages their anti-depressants and/or ADHD meds. I already have to go to see a PCP once a year for my birth control pills prescription, and even if I needed to visit a bit more frequently for them to take over these prescriptions (like I know Vyvanse is weird because it is a controlled substance) it's at least only $30 per visit with PCPs.
