The hiring process should not take a month.

I've repeatedly talked with companies who say that end to end the process is about a month, whether there are two steps or five.

Companies used to post jobs when they needed people, and they were like "How soon can you start?", and you had to say "Two weeks." to avoid looking like you were willing to shaft your previous employer on notice.

Now, it is that thing where they just keep interviewing perpetually and you're given an offer when someone else finally quits. It's like being stuck on the bench in consulting, but without any guarantees or bench pay.

This system needs to be fixed.
