Okay, so today, Niantic released the Tour Pass feature that tracks and rewards your activities during the Unova Tour event. At first glance, it seems interesting simply because it is a new mechanic. So here's how it works:
- There is the basic route (everyone gets this) and the deluxe route (you can only get this if you buy it)
- Both routes have levels, and depending on the levels you achieve, you get rewards. The basic and deluxe route share the same levels.
- You get levels by obtaining points. Everyday, you get one task that rewards you exactly 50 points (two tasks if you buy the deluxe pass).
- Additionally, you can get more points based on your activity: 50 points for catching a legendary, 10 points for hatching an egg, and 5 points for catching a pokemon. You need 50 points to level up your pass.
BUT HERE'S THE KICK TO THE CROTCH: THERE IS A DAILY LIMIT TO HOW MANY POINTS YOU GET!
Basically, you can only obtain a maximum of 200 points per day (250 if you get the deluxe), which you can achieve by completing the 50-point reward/s from the task plus extra 150 points from your activity. So basically, you can only level up your pass by 4 (5 with deluxe) levels per day.
Moreover, the Tour Pass is only available for a week, so I'm guessing you can only obtain levels during this time frame (you can still claim the rewards much later than this).
Now here's the problem. With the deluxe pass, you can get the lucky trinket as a reward after reaching 100 levels. So how am I supposed to get 100 levels in 7 days if the maximum I can level up per day is 5??? Well, there is a solution. You can buy +10 levels... BUY +10 LEVELS... BUY... Yes, if you need the lucky trinket, you can finish your daily 250 points per day, then buy the rest of the levels... So my options right now: either RIP wallet or goodbye Pokemon Go.
EDIT: Read somewhere that there won't be a cap for the points you get during the Unova Tour Global event (needs verification).
EDIT 2: During the Unova Global event, the tasks refresh hourly, so that means 1 level per hour if you finish all the tasks. Still, the total for the week would be less than 50 levels without buying levels...
EDIT 3: There was a tweet from niantic support that there won't be a cap during the Unova Tour Global.
"Trainers, we want to clarify the Tour Pass experience during the Road to Unova event. You can earn a capped amount of Pass Points per day from Monday to Friday to get a head start on your Tour Pass. During GO Tour Global weekend, the Pass Point limits will be removed and you will have the opportunity to obtain an unlimited amount of points during the event."
