Update: Crow Rescue

TLDR: Crow is with a rescuer who rehabs birds and if the crow can fly again after rehab, we will bring it back to our neighborhood to release. If flying is no longer an option it will be cared for at the rescue for the rest of its little life ———————

Thank you everyone for your referrals and super kind words. A lot of you reached out for an update so here it is…

This morning, my husband went through all the helpful comments and started calling the referrals. He also went to the CA Department of Fish & Wildlife website and got a list of options there as well. He spent a good two hours making calls. A few leads ran cold, some do not take crowd any longer, and most everyone else was saying “we don’t, but this person does” and so on and so on.

Animal Control had the crow scheduled to be released to WAGS shelter whom they contract with. They were holding the crow for another hour as a courtesy to my husband while he figured out another option.

Animal Control explained WAGS do take birds in, but crows require large aviaries as part of their rehabilitation, and because they are social they tend to attract other crows and can cause a nuisance to nearby neighbors or businesses. Since WAGS isn’t setup for rehabilitation more likely than not the crow would be euthanized after examination unless it was a mild injury where it would naturally heal in a short time.

A few places he called mentioned this same guy who rehabs pigeons and may be able to help. He asked to remain private since he’s not supposed to rehab crows something with permits and red tape but he does have a couple he rescued. The Pigeon Man was speaking passionately about why he does what he does and that he doesn’t put birds down. He offered to take the crow!

My husband went back to Animal Control picked up the crow and drove it over to the Pigeon Man. We agreed to take the crow back to our neighborhood if he rehabs enough to fly again, but if he doesn’t he will be cared for by Pigeon Man until the end of his days.

Anyway you all are awesome. If it wasn’t for all the replies on the original post I truly believe he would have been euthanized today or tomorrow as we kept hitting dead ends (no pun intended). Thank you so much again for all your help.
