Got Pulled over by police officer in weird uniform, guy was sound

I was caught speeding today (not proud of it but was absolutely dying to relive myself) doing about 55 in a 40. Unmarked Car behind me lights up like a Christmas tree and I get pulled in. Cop was sound and very understanding but he was wearing the same style of uniform as the normal officers, except it was plain jet black and he had a red symbol badge on his shoulders, this was the only marking at all on the entirely black uniform.

Was i pulled by a PSNI special branch officer? Never seen a uniform like it but he seemed legit so I never asked to see anything like a badge, maybe I should’ve?

Is it in relation to the data breach? e.g uniforms without badge numbers etc

EDIT: he was not wearing a hat, just a plain black uniform with a red symbol on the the shoulder flaps (it wasn’t the Ruc symbol)
