What the hell is wrong with our health system?? ~A stressed out First-time Father.

Our 2-3 month old presents to A&E with a temperature. They rule out Flu/RSV/Covid with a RAT test. An initial swab urine test shows possible UTI (pending lab result). We're prescribed Anti-Biotics. We expressed to the Doc our struggle even just getting 1ml pamol down as baby instantly spits up - So the Doc tries to make it easy for us by prescribing 3ml (double strength) anti-biotics.

First Failure: The STUPID pharmacist thinks he knows better and prescribes the 6mls at half strength (rather than 3mls full). He said something implying it was easier - I had zero clue what he was talking about and this was nearing midnight so I rushed back to A&E to pick up my wife and baby. The Doc looks at the meds and exclaims "This isn't what I asked for!" (re. the 3ml vs. 6ml)... All she can do is find a 6ml syringe and wish us best of luck.

We go alright the first day - but then the next morning, baby throws up after feeding (40mins after giving anti-biotics). So we call up plunket to ask what to do. Thankfully they say 40mins is enough for the body to take in some of the anti-biotics, and that we shouldn't re-give the amount. But they also sound FAR more concerned about getting baby off the anti-biotics (almost as if it were poison) and to hear back re. the results ASAP. They ask me to call our doctors to find out about the results.

Second Failure: I call our local docs... get the nurse to call me back... They see the results are still pending... So I ask, can you please call me then when they're available. They said "We can't do that. You'll have to call back"... So I ask when.. "Maybe try this Thursday" - That's a few days from now! So we have to put up with giving these difficult anti-biotics to our baby, and for all we know he may not actually need them. He's already over his temperatures! And on top of that, I have to keep wasting the reception and nurse' time by guessing when to call back, probably just to be told pending again.

Third Failure: So we ask the nurse if she has any tips administering the anti-biotics in the mean time.. she suggests we could try following it up with water. As far as I have been told, you DO NOT give a baby water! I'm no expert - but I have heard about water intoxication. When I mentioned that, the nurse was dumbfounded as if she had never heard about it before! I do not trust the advice of someone who does not even consider the dangers of something - or at least bring them into the conversation and give me a rational justification for doing something. It's flippant unprofessional 'advice' that shouldn't be uttered by a medical practitioner!

TLDR: We're stuck with the difficult task of giving 6ml anti-biotics (instead of 3ml, cause the thinks-he-knows-better pharmacist) 3x daily to our 2-3month old baby, with the stress of baby throwing it all up at any moment. Plunket want to get our baby off the anti-biotics ASAP, but we're awaiting the lab results to determine if he needs it (likely not till this Thursday, but I have to keep guessing when to phone back, according to the Nurse). Meanwhile, the nurse flippantly/ignorantly advises us to give our baby water intoxication. 🙄

EDIT: Also - sorry for the angry tone in OP. This comes after baby spat up a lot of the anti-biotics moments before. He's resting now. I just had to vent somehow and hear-out some reasoning behind it. Thank y'all for sharing.
