Patrick Bateman work profile

Is Patrick Bateman a businessman or an employee in Investment Banking? Asking cause I don’t see him doing much at work except for dining at fine restaurants and comparing business cards.

Is his job or whatever even real? Or just a figment of his imagination? At the end he seemed to have some sort of identity crisis. What do y’all think?
