Can counting calories actually lower metabolism?

New to the sub here, I have been trying to lose about 10 pounds that I put on a while ago for a long time, just to feel slimmer and work off some extra weight. I was counting calories, eating around 1200 (I’m 4”11 and 116 lbs for reference) and sometimes would do pretty well but I hated that diet so I would always end up eating a meal out on the weekend with friends and putting back on the weight I lost that week. Maybe that’s just my own discipline problem.

So I tried other options like skipping breakfast and just eating lunch and dinner (intermittent fasting) and I wasn’t making any progress. I was also weak and low energy in the mornings.

Then I started working with a dietitian who mainly has just been encouraging me to eat a lot of protein with every meal. We tried not counting calories and just being mindful at first but I wasn’t seeing progress, so I started counting again and still wasn’t seeing progress. This week I increased my cardio exercise even and wasn’t seeing progress.

I read that eating low calorie for a long time can actually decrease your metabolism so maybe taking a diet break (eating maintenance for two weeks) could be good. I just don’t know what else to do, is it even worth losing the weight? Also are the diets I’ve tried healthy so far or would they do more harm than good?

Tldr: tried counting calories and intermittent fasting for a long time, not really making progress, wondering if my metabolism is lower from this
