Favourite Lorde Writings Outside of Her Music?
Lorde imo is one of the best lyricists of all time and I can spend hours breaking down every lyric to show you why.
But what are her best writings outside of music? Could be from a newsletter, interview, tweet, post, etc.
Mine are:
1) "I sit in the time machine and wait for it to move, but it hasn't been invented yet." I never knew this feeling of overthinking, escapism, and anxiety could be expressed in such a painstakingly succinct yet beautiful manner, but here she is. Like I would turn this into a poster and hang it up on my wall kinda amazing.
2) Also her tweets about Drake's music. Personally, I despise Drake and his music, even the songs she mentioned, but the way she talked about them made me appreciate something I couldn't see. Like the way she describes his useage of nouns as colouring with primary colours in songs like Headlines and Trophies.
Also about Hotline Bling being a simple way to say something really clever. I'm a huge fan of hip hop music but I never noticed that a lot of other rappers were doing exactly this. While I still don't like Drake or these songs at all, I can at least now appreciate what makes them work. Also, I would say that Lorde has been doing this thing of saying simple stuff in a very clever way better than most rappers since her debut, and she's a better lyricist than Drake and most rappers, other than the very elite ones.
Similarly, her tweets about Into You and other songs which I might not like did make me appreciate them at least,Regardless, I would rather listen to Lorde praise about music I don't like than guys like Fantano praising music I like. Even when I don't exactly agree with her opinion, her analyses are very insightful and her passion is infectious.
