Furnace Flue CO levels
Hi folks,
I rent an apartment and today I noticed a strong gas smell outside. I called the gas company and they tested the area and found 2000 ppm CO coming from my furnace flue. They shut the furnace off.
My landlord sent their maintenance guy out to look at it, and he couldn’t figure anything out. He had a cheap looking CO detector and said that the flue did have high levels, but that was normal because it’s an exhaust pipe. He also said the flame looked normal (was blue). A quick googling shows that 2000 ppm is WAY beyond acceptable levels. And like I said, this maintenance guys CO meter looked cheap, and appeared to have been bought today.
So, should I press my landlord to send out an actual HVAC professional? It seems to me that there’s a risk that CO of that level could get back in the apartment. Are there any other specific risks I can point out to landlord to get them to send someone out?
Thanks in advance for any help!
