Home Before Dark: Little Girl Ghost (Spoilers)

So its entirely possible i missed it, or I'm just completely forgetting. At the end we find out that Miss Penny Face was actually Marta Carver, and Mr. Shadow was Elsa Ditmer. What about the 'little girl that couldn't leave'? Did we get an explanation for this or was that part made up by the dad for the original book?
