Google Fiber now installing Fiber Jacks w/10Gbe port!

If you have, or are looking at 2G service, it might be time to ask for a swap out if its an option in your market (mine is SLC UT).

I just had this done to get my Unifi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) directly connected and servicing the full 2G service.

Many posts over the last 2 years about work arounds to accomplish this with $$.
But in a nut shell, add a 10Gbe copper SFP+ to port 10, swap the port configurations so it is the WAN and away you go.

I initiated this process because I had been running the service at 1G with the GF SFP GPON directly attached to port 10. This worked great, but wasn't getting the 2G service (see other posts for why). I noticed the post here a few days ago about bridge mode being an option now on the Technicolor "data towers". So I tried to plug the device I had in... it never showed as online for the GF configuration page, so they sent a tech out. He looked at what I was trying to do and said, you know, we're installing 10Gbe Jacks now, want to try that instead? Swapped service to BYO Router, a few hiccups with hardware/cabling later and now on a true UDM-Pro direct connection with 2G service... no nonsense in the middle or special configuration (VLAN, QoS).
