Convincing myself new clubs are a good decision

Hey all, I'm a semi new golfer who bought a 2008 set of game improvement irons (taylormade r7 cgb max). They have served me well for half a year but I've managed to drop my handicap significantly and I am now lusting after new clubs. I know blades are a poor decision as I still strike off center from time to time, but I do think shortening my yardage variability with some players distance irons might actually benefit me. I was looking at the takomo 101ts or a used set of p790s

What I am really curious about is if it's silly to grab some new clubs when my old ones still work? Has technology really changed enough from my old irons to make it worth chasing something new? Or is this a significant case of diminished returns and I should just enjoy what I have and buy some more whiskey?
