Looking for some quick confirmation on the trim pieces . Are the Starter Trim and “J” trim (sides) exactly the same pieces and profiles?

I purchased 4 sets and I don’t see any distinction between the starter and J trim pieces besides length However in the instructions the diagram shows differences
