MTB riders constant complaining/whining about e-bikes?

Hi All,

I'm new to mountain biking. A few months ago, I bought my first mountain bike, an e-bike (Trek Rail). I'm absolutely loving it and having a blast. My partner and I rented e-bikes when we visited Vancouver a few months ago and we both instantly knew we had to get one. We are in our 40s, not in the best shape and live mostly sedentary lives. Since we've gotten our bikes we've put on several hundred miles and feel a lot healthier/happier.

I've visited some of the mountain biking subs and forums across the web and I'm honestly blown away by the amount of people that hate on e-bikers. It seems like I can't read a single thread without someone throwing some shade in there somewhere, complaining about how we destroy trails and are the rudest people alive. Even a friend of mine, who's been mountain biking for years, seems to not be able to get over the fact that we own e-bikes (he's on an analog mtb). We've been on a few rides together, and instead of just enjoying the ride, it's nothing but comments about how fast I am, how cheating e-bikes are, or when he comes back from a ride, instead of telling me about how fun it was he tells me about how many e-bikers dominate the trails now and it's "ebikes this ebikes that" instead of "shit man it was a beautiful day and I had a blast."

What gives? Is it jealousy? Are e-bikers really THAT rude out on trails, because I've yet to see it. It reminds me so much of when digital cameras first came out and all of the old school photographers complained about how "its cheating" and "analog film is so much better, keep it pure," I feel like it's the same mentality. Can't we all just get along? In my mind, the more people getting outside, enjoying nature, getting exercise, the better, who cares what they are riding.
