Grip Strength Question

New to this group, figured this would be the best place to post this question. Background: I have a goal of hitting 325 feet consistently by May, and I've been playing for about 2 years now. I have a hard time getting consistent distance, and one thing I've wondered about is grip strength. I know a lot of people say "grip it as hard as you can" but I have been rock climbing for around 14 years now and my grip strength is pretty strong because of it. So the few times I've tried gripping it as hard as I can, I have grip locked about 90 degrees to my right (RHBH). Anyone have any insight or thoughts on whether this is an actual issue and how to adjust to it, or if its just in my head?
