Re: Morality of Cody owning shares in TMG
I've seen a number of sentiments along something of this line: "I really want to support Noel and the other people who work for TMG but I don't like that Cody owns some shares and will profit. "
I totally understand why this makes people uneasy and I wouldn't fault anyone for dropping the company all together, ultimately it's entertainment and should make you feel happy and not anxious. I also think Cody should over time sell his shares and bow out.
That being said, do you know most of the people who own stocks in the companies your purchase other entertainment from? Do you know the moral caliber of the people profiting off of you every time you buy a video game or an album, etc? I would guess not, and I would guess at least some of them are not good people. Given what I know about the entertainment industry, I bet a non insignificant amount of them have slept with teenagers :/
So I guess my point is, I don't think it's necessarily hypocritical or morally wrong of you to continue to support Noel and other innocent parties, even if Cody will profit some, bc you are making more or less the same decisions all the time. There's no great way in the system we have right now to make sure only the right artists profit from your support of them.
