Why did Gus have Jesse kidnapped in season 4 finale?

Gus had his men kidnap Jesse after he was released from police custody. I know Gus obviously wanted him to resume cooking, but what was his long term goal? He spent the whole season trying to get Jesse on his side in order to ditch Walt, and he even let Jesse stay at the hospital and told him to return to the lab when he is able to. What changed? Why not have Jesse handcuffed and forced to cook at the lab at the start of the season? It seemed important to Gus to have Jesse on his side and cooking voluntarily, and when he had Jesse kidnapped, there was no indication from Jesse at that point that he was trying to help Walt kill Gus. Am I missing something?
