Boston Dining Scene

I see the common complaint that boston lags in the dining scene compared to other major cities. I've lived here all my life so I have no frame of reference for dining in say chicago, new york or la. But I do agree that I am constantly disappointed in my restaurant experience in this city. I find that more often than not the food is pretty meh, the service is impersonal and robotic, the ambiance is off (music too low lights too high ect), but the bill is always high.

I guess my question is, what is it that other cities provide that boston does not? What do you wish was better/existed? Aside from giulia in cambridge, nautilus in seaport, field and vine + sarma in somerville and desserts at oleana i find that im pretty consistently disappointed.
