Z3 1999 shift gear light

Hey guys I need some help, I got my Z3 and the little orange light that indicates if it’s on D or R etc doesn’t light up during the night I don’t know if it works by a light bulb like others. The rest of the lights of the car do work so it’s pretty much just the one to change gears. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
