Interchangeable cranksets?
Hi!
I need to change the crankset on my daily commuter bike since the pedal threading has been stripped. I was asking my LBS to fix it but they would rather just replace the whole crankset and then I thought I might as well do it myself since I have the tools. It's currently got the cheap Shimano Tourney crankset (FC-TY301) with a Acera derailleur and I was thinking of replacing it with a Acera crankset since I can get it delivered faster and I was thinking it's sturdier. Also the only FC-TY301 crankset I can find is 150 mm while the one on my bike seems to be 170.
The only issue i can see is that the Acera crankset is 48/38/28 while my Tourney is supposed to be 42/34/24.
I also have the option of buying another Tourney crankset, the FC-TY501, which is 170 mm and has the same set of teeth, 42/34/24.
Do you think there would be a problem changing the crankset? What do I need to look for to make sure it's compatible?
Thanks!
