Newborn & big dog (staffy/lab mix)

We had our first baby 9 days ago! Out 7 y/o, 85 lb staffy/lab mix has been at my parents house since she was born. We need to take him back soon.

Even though he’s 7 he has a lot of energy and he is used to being our “only child” meaning he is used to cuddling on the sofa, sleeping in our bed, having free reign of our small apartment.

He has shown some fear aggression towards young children in the past (the noises and flailing, he is a rescue I’ve had him since age 1)

I am more worried about him accidentally harming her by climbing on us when we are on the sofa or in bed. We have a dog trainer we have met with a few times and she has been helping us with basic commands and also tips like keeping him on a lead that is tied to something in the apartment so he has his “area” of the apt but not free reign.

Anyone have experience with this? Unfortunately he is not super well trained.
