Do Belgians really pay hlaf of their income in taxes?

As a student looking to apply for masters in Belgium, I learned that Belgian people pay 50% of their income as tax. So if I were to make suppose 2000 EUR so I will be giving 1000 EUR as tax?

Can someone elaborate on it? Thanks.
