Engaged couple moving to the area to start grad school. Any housing help appreciated!

My fiance and I will be moving to the area this August for her to start her PhD at UMD this fall. As a couple, we are looking to find a 1br somewhere within driving distance to UMD that would come in around $1,450 a month.

I am a PhD student at Johns Hopkins, so money is tight, and we have to think about commuting to both schools. We have spent a lot of time looking around the Hyattsville and Silver Spring areas, but we always seem to find apartments with horrifying reviews or ones that are just out of our price range.

If anyone has any advice on either neighborhoods to look at or specific apartments, the help would be super appreciated!
