At Americans: Tips should be truly optional and we shouldn't feel ashamed that we're not responsible for a waiters income
I said what I said!
Every time I see a post about tipping culture on Instagram or Facebook, the comments are endless with the majority truly arguing that a waiter makes $2 and we should tip them 25% or what not.
They provide a service and it's up to me if I want to give an optional tip.
Years ago all POS devices (Point of sale, the tablets were you insert and pay with your credit card) introduced the tipping option with 10% 15% 18%.
Everyone thought it was odd because these POS would mostly sit on counter tops where people have minimal interaction with the cashier for example ordering a coffee at Starbucks vs a full on sit down restaurant service.
Over the years society has normalized that.
Years later we bumped it up to 20% 25% and 30% as the standard option.
Now we're starting to see self checkouts asking for tip that has no human interaction. And we're even normalizing this?
When does this insanity stop?
Look up what the word "Tip" means in the encyclopedia.
Why don't we tip an auto mechanic, or the dentist, or the post man? They are all providing a service no? Your argument is flawed if you say anything but "Yes it is optional and you should not feel obligated to tip unless the service was outstanding"
If we all stop tipping maybe the entire industry will be forced to pay their workers what they deserve..... or watch the industry collapse.
The system is broken and I'm tired of this! I'll start not tipping anywhere.
Ohhh one last thing... I know the usual BS response will be "If you're broke then just say so." or "If you can't afford to tip then don't go out"
y'all a joke lol!!!! how about you guys start tipping the Amazon delivery guy EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!!!! or the dentist
