Is this non-denominational christianity or am I just kinda dumb? Please be polite when answering and I hope I dont offend any denomination on this text
I live in a country that is mostly Catholic and Evangelical (Brazil). Basically every person I know is a christian, from a variety of denominations - catholics, baptists, calvinists, evangelicals, even mormons. And they all agree that a true christian must follow a certain church/denomination in order to practice religion "the right way". If you dont go, you'll end up doing something heretic and going to hell.
As I grow older, i realize that I feel a connection with Christianity and specially with Jesus and His teachings, but I dont feel connected to any church or christian denomination. I always feel like, in church, people put too many human traits in God - they describe Him as vengeful, proud, very strict, sometimes even violent, and not very understanding. At least, thats how most people I know who follow some specific denomination describe him, but of course thats not all christians.
In my perception, God is so much bigger than us, so much better and wiser, that he would not act in ways we could really understand. How can the Divine Being who created the miracle of life, all the beauty of nature, the complex maths that connect everything we know, the happiness and sadness and all other feelings, act so much like a small man? I know community is very beautiful and its an important part of religion for many many christians, but I feel like we should each discover faith, God, and what all of this means to us, individually. And only after you find out what it means to you, you may or may not decide to join a church or denomination that might align to what you believe. In my case, i dont really have an interest to join any, at least not at this moment.
Yes, I read the bible, but I plan on reading it again, because its been some time.
