This reads like a counter-argument against Modest Mouse’s “Strangers to Ourselves” being a Trainwreckord.
I know that the late-2010s commercial nadir of rock music is a frequent topic on this sub. What doesn’t get talked about in those discussions is how the preceding few years were marked by nearly every major 2000s alternative rock act having noticeable dips in quality.
I saw Modest Mouse perform at my local alt-rock station’s holiday concert in 2007: it was an arena show, and they were the headliner. I nearly saw them again in 2015 while they were touring amphitheaters for Strangers to Ourselves; I didn’t like the album, but the supporting act was Hop Along, whose Painted Shut was my favorite album that year. It’s clear that the band’s stock is much lower now than it was a decade ago.
