What Happened to Demons?

So I recently finished reading the novel, and while I have a lot of criticisms towards the series, especially the ending, the one that I was a bit confused was what happened to the demon race. I vaguely understand that, since Roland is now a Custodion, he create a moon-like object for demon race to occupy? Just need a confirmation, thanks!
