Thoughts on Mekhi Becton as guard depth?
So, reports are the Bears LG Teven Jenkins (who I believe is the best player still available), is looking at 3 teams and we are not one of them (Bengals, Seahawks and Giants per SI). I'm aware that some believe that the interior O-Line is mostly fine, but I think we need at least one body who can compete for a starting role.
I don't have a ton of confidence that Andrews is going to drop straight back under Center with no issues and Strange has had his struggles getting on the field and performing when there. Becton is far from Option A, but he had a solid bounce back season with Philly and if he continues to be healthy he could be a solid starter at LG. If you do like him, what contract do you think is fair? If you don't like him, why not?
IMO a big 1 year contract could be interesting for him as a prove it deal where he still gets a solid pay day ($16-18 mil). It sounds huge, but we aren't spending that cap anywhere else and it doesn't kill any long term money for us if it doesn't work out. The other option would be to have an incentive based 3 year deal where it's basically just games played = $.
