Urgent cares are pointless
93 y/o family member went to UC for 2 weeks of cough. Initial vitals, which were similar to a repeat, were HR: 34, BP 90/54, SPO2 91%. Saw an NP, obviously as there were no physicians in the building, who performed a chest x-ray and physical exam. She told my family they his low blood pressure is likely dehydration, and to monitor the cough. After hearing this I was worried about a high-grade heart block at minimum and told them to go to the ER as he was lethargic and confused. He ended up having pneumonia and 2nd degree heart block which is being managed now. Maybe I’m not up to date with practices, but you’d think the NP would get an EKG at the very least for symptomatic bradycardia.
