Bowser’s Fury is overrated and I hate how people want that to be the next 3D Mario.

Let me just preface this by saying that I do NOT despise Bowser’s Fury. However, it’s definitely not the masterpiece gamers put it out to be, even going as far as to say this should be the next mainline 3D Mario game.

For starters, Odyssey is far more ambitious than Bowser’s Fury is. I get that Bowser’s Fury isn’t a fully fledged game, but that’s the whole gimmick of Bowser’s Fury.

Bowser’s Fury works for what it is, a simple expansion. I cannot imagine this game being fully fledged because it just wouldn’t work, I can’t imagine it.

Let’s just hypothetically say though that it is a fully fledged game… geez what a massive downgrade that would be from Odyssey.

For one, the moveset is extremely boring, even with power ups in mind. Mario can’t triple jump, he can’t dive, he’s slow even with the dash button, I mean the list goes on and on. It’s not shit controls, but in Odyssey Mario’s quick and agile, has fast response time, a variety of moves, and Cappy just adds even more diversity to that alongside the transformations.

The worlds in Odyssey are also gorgeous with details, whilst BF just consists of water and islands, yeah there’s themes but still, same overall premise. Sure, both games have the same gimmick in being collectothans, but once again Odyssey beats BF in this. Sure not all the moons are interesting, but most of them are. It can consist of cool Easter eggs or secrets, exploring, doing side quests, interacting with NPCs, I mean the list goes on and on. Meanwhile, BF has the same tasks and it’s mostly just the same things. Yeah they’re fun, but not as creative as Odyssey.

It just baffles me how much people love BF to the point where they say “fuck Odyssey and let’s make the next 3D Mario more in vain with BF”. I’m not saying the next 3D Mario has to be an Odyssey sequel, but it definitely should have the same ambition or style that game has rather than trying to make a fully fledged game based on Bowser’s Fury.
