Can we leave the U.S.?

I'm beyond tired of the political division in this country, and the fact that so many people here can be manipulated by billionaires and radical religious groups to drive us to a place where we no longer support environmental protection programs (after we've played a big role in in damaging the environment), and as a wealthy country no longer want to help those in desperate need, especially the 12% living in poverty right here at home. I'm hearing California is putting forth a proposal for secession, and now that subsidies and federal support for programs like farming and coastal fishing are being cut, I can't imagine those of us in rural farming and fishing communities will continue to back Susan Collins after selling her soul to try to protect them. I don't want my federal taxes to go to the military, space exploration or government contracts that support padding billionaires pockets. I'd rather pay all federal and state taxes to a collective fund that supports Maine, and would also welcome becoming part of Canada if there was any way to do that. Coastal Maine could become Canada's southern Riviera (wouldn't it be nice to be recognized as warm vs. freezing?), and I'd welcome renaming the Gulf of Maine to Gulf of Canada. Are there any Maine lawyers that can weigh in here? I found this article on the legality of secession, and maybe we can join forces with other neighboring states. I need to live and support a place that doesn't put billionaire and corporate interests first. https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/could-states-really-secede-from-the-union/
