Will Secret Invasion Be Retconned into the Multiverse?
It’s been my headcanon for awhile that SI isn’t in the MCU proper but that was because it was such a disappointment. But now I’m wondering if they shouldn’t just do it. Not only was it low rated, divisive and unpopular, it set up so many dangling threads that haven’t been answered in subsequent projects and likely won’t be before Doomsday and Secret wars.
Rhodey was a Skrull. And we don’t know for how long. Hints indicated it could be as far back as after his injury. Which would be a HUGE emotional blow if he hadn’t been around for the Snap, the Blip and the final battle. Maybe it could’ve paid off if they’d ever gotten Armor Wars off the ground but it’s DOA. So a huge thing that that, for an OG character, would just fizzle away.
Ross was a skrull. Since when? How does this affect BP2 where we found out he’d been married to Val? Especially as we’re seeing more of her and I bet thunderbolts* doesn’t even have a throwaway line about her ex being a skrull. And given her position that’s kind of a big deal.
Ross is now president, or was. What about Pres. Dermott Mulroney doing a Trump level job of blowing up alliances by going on a “kill all aliens” rampage. Crickets about any of that in Brave New World despite foreign relations playing a part in the plot.
Gaia is roaming around all superpowered. And she’s just going to be in the shadows? So dumb. But they also consistently have to nerf other heroes and there’s no way they could actually write a convincing battle with her. Who could beat her?
No mention of Nick’s wife in The Marvels even though she should’ve been there and they needed to evacuate.
Nick commited a HUGE act of betrayal, and mind boggling stupidity, in scooping up all that dna.
So you can just ignore all this by putting it in another universe. Plus you get Maria and Talos back, another chance to better use Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben Adair and give Olivia Coleman (really the bright spot of that mess) a better showcase.
