Tournament format megathread

There have been a number of questions and comments about the current season's extended period of tournament play. This megathread is designed to focus all comments about this season's approach to tournaments in one place.

Some background for those who aren't aware: due to the WGA strike that was recently settled, it was decided that rather than bring on new contestants, they would invite back previous players in tournament formats, using a good deal of recycled/previously written material. Even though the writers are now back on board, the show has committed to tournaments for the next several months. It is expected that new players will be invited onto shows that will begin airing around April of 2024.
