New Craziest Thing I Own

So I was scrolling through eBay this weekend, and came across this crazy find (that I am now the proud owner of). This is (according to all of the paperwork from the estate of Muriel Zuckerman) Benny Goodman’s expired passport from 1961-1966, which includes the time he spent in the Soviet Union as a “Jazz Ambassador” in 1962 (here’s a really great article by bassist Bill Crow about that trip that I think everyone should read at some point: https://www.billcrowbass.com/m_to-russia-without-love.html )

I’d share more pictures of the various stamps with dates that seem to line up with his recorded trips from the time, but I’m not sure of the legality of that…

Owning this feels almost…wrong in a way. Given that I live in the Chicagoland area, I’ll probably end up donating to this to a local museum somewhere down the line, but I figured I’d share this cool little piece of Jazz history with all of you while it’s inbetween the mailbox and some sort of a frame or protector.
