Did Peeta know eating the berries with Katniss was rebellious?
We know Katniss’s internal monologue when she comes up with the idea to do the stunt with the berries, she’s hoping it will force the gamemakers to let them both live, but is also prepared to die.
But what is Peeta thinking when Katniss suggests this double suicide? Is he only thinking Katniss is doing this due to her feelings for him? Is he aware this is an act of defiance toward the Capitol as to “not be a piece in their games”? A mix of both?
Peeta’s reaction to learning Katniss wasn’t sure of her feelings for him at the end of the book makes it seem like he feels the berry stunt was essentially just out of love. Though we know Peeta is well aware of the politics of the games, so it seems unlikely he wouldn’t see the rebelliousness of the berries. In the moment of it all though, Peeta isn’t running at full capacity…since he’s basically on the brink of death at this point.
What do you think?
