Having trouble with my monitor

I bought a HP Compaq LA2405wg yesterday at a second hand store, because i needed a monitor, i also bought a Displayport to Hdmi cable so i can actually connect it to my laptop and xbox (both only have hdmi). The problem is, when i turn it on it says there's no signal for the Displayport. What am i supposed to do?
