Can me and my friend link our games to trade pokemon?

I didn’t want to overload the title, but for context… My friend bought a gameboy advance sp a couple months back and I freaked out and was excited for them, and then for Christmas, that same friend along with a few others surprised me with one as well. I also bought a few games (essentials like Mario Advance 2, Tetris, stuff like that) and a link cable in case we wanted to link consoles. I also went to the usual place recently and found that they had pokemon games for sale and I bought myself Pokemon Blue and my friend asked me to pick them up one, that being Pokemon Yellow. As a usual Pokemon nerd, I know that you can’t catch every pokemon and need to trade for them to work, and I know that at least with gameboy consoles, you can link them together to trade, but does it work at all for gameboy advance sp consoles or would you have to use an original Gameboy/Gameboy Color? I’ve looked online and have been confused with it. Could someone give me a straight answer— lol
