Expanded/converted bedroom to media room, did I knock down a load bearing wall?
Link to pic gallery below.
We expanded a bedroom into the loft space to build our media room. Upstairs bedrooms are 8ft ceiling and loft space was/is 9ft ceiling. Before I started the project, I had two contractors with decades of construction experience assure me that the wall in question was not load bearing. This is on the 2nd floor and the attic space above this room is easily accessible. The joists run parallel to the wall as shown in the pics below. The construction was done 18 months ago, but after I recently noticed cracks (that I've since patched up / pointed out in pics) on the ceiling drywall, I feel like I need more opinions and added peace of mind. The cracks may be nothing and just more settling of the foundation (house was built in 2017), or maybe from when I had recent HVAC work done in the attic? Or could be a sign of a major problem waiting to happen? Thanks in advance!
