Baby or sub adult?

Hi I am wanting to start breeding crested geckos (as a hobby not as a big business) and was wondering if I should get a baby or look for something older to start? I haven’t kept crested geckos before but I have been keeping animals my entire life and have bred other animals before I feel the smart thing to do is to get a baby so I can get used to looking after them tho I’d rather not have to wait 2 years until I can start breeding, I don’t want to start straight away but feel 2 years is a bit long to wait any advice would be greatly appreciated Edit: I should also add that I have worked with crested geckos before when I did animal studies in college but I have never owned them myself
