If Canada did become the 51st state, wouldn’t that tip the political balance of the electorate to the left?

I’m no Norman Einstein, but I could foresee a situation where Canada and the USA for a new country let’s call it USA+ because Canada has so many people, a much larger percentage of whom are liberal than in the USA as it is today, and the vast majority of whom are against being acquired and I would have to believe would resent Trump and vote Democrat about 70/30 (a number based on a generous interpretation I just saw of an infographic about what percentage of Canadians want a merger) and so it just seems like a recipe for tilting the balance back towards the political left. Is there something I’m missing?
