Is the textbook for FILM 1101 necessary?

Hi! I’m taking FILM 1101 in W25 because I need it for my minor and I just realized the textbook for the class is gonna cost me anywhere from 50-179$ which threw me for a loop.

I just wanted to know from people who have taken the course if buying this textbook is required (like if there is very specific content/quotes from the book that will appear on quizzes, or if the professor is going to ask specific questions relating to the book’s content in class).

For extra context, I already have a film diploma (some of my credits at the 2000 and 3000 levels transferred over but none at the 1000 level so I have to take this course). Not to sound pretentious, but I really don’t want to waste a decent amount of money on a textbook full of information I might already know unless it’s absolutely necessary.
