What even is a crashout anymore?

Genuine question, I’m a new fan (only started watching BFDI during the end of January) and I saw the term crashout be used often only after TPOT16 (although I’m sure it existed well beforehand). So many scenes are getting called “crashouts”, though, that I am genuinely struggling to understand what the fandom considers a crashout and what isn’t.

So, if it’s not too much trouble, could you drop in the comments your own definition of “crashout” in a BFDI sense? What makes you think “this character is having a crashout!” or what do you expect when you say “I hope [character] is the next to have a crashout next episode!”?

I’ll drop mine, and you can tell me if it’s correct or not.

A crashout is when a character snaps after either a prolonged period of negative happenings building up over time, or one very big happening that disrupts their life. The character is then overcome by anger and the drive to do something, anything to fix the issue, which more often than not leads to impulsive decisions and even more negative things happening as a result of them not thinking straight.
