It's high time we discuss this midsem issue
Unpopular opinion, but I feel we should get rid of midsems, or at least change the current format.
First of all, these midsems have heavy weightages with up to 35% in some courses. If you mess up this one exam, it's basically over for you in that subject for the sem.
Next, the schedule—7/8 exams in 5-6 days. Some people even have 3 exams in a day, with only maybe a 30-minute break between two exams. And it’s not like these exams are easy, where you can just write and chill. People have to slog through nights just hoping for a B or B-.
Adding to these issues, impartus and sometimes lms being down only make things worse. Now imagine how stressful the situation becomes.
Potential solutions include reducing the weightage of midsems or replacing them with continuous evaluations like quizzes, assignments, group projects, and minor in-class work. I'd rather write two extra quizzes than one midsem.
All I’m saying is that two days (midsem and compre) out of these 4-5 months should not define your grade in a subject. Grading is another messed up issue, but I don’t want to get into that right now.
